How to Update Your Kitchen Without Spending a Small Fortune

As one of, if not the most used room in the home, the kitchen is often considered as the most important room in the house. Our kitchens aren’t just places to cook meals, they’re now a space where we spend the majority of our time at home, from cooking a delicious meal to entertaining guests or simply sitting down with your children and helping them with homework. It doesn’t matter how big or small your kitchen is, it always seems to be the room that draws everybody in. Therefore, it’s so important to make sure you’re happy with your kitchens design. It may seem like a kitchen update will cost a ridiculous amount of money, but there are so many cost-effective ways in which you can introduce new, exciting features to your kitchen to give it a fresh, new look!

Revive Your Walls

Giving your kitchen walls a fresh lick of paint can make such a huge difference to the overall feel and atmosphere that you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner. It’s so easy for the kitchen walls to become tired and dirty due to the amount of cooking carried out in the kitchen, with steam, dust, smoke and even food, the walls take a lot from day-to-day kitchen routines. One way to keep the walls fresh is to wipe them down every now and then, removing any dirt or dust that has gathered and resulted in your walls looking dull and tired. You could also look at giving them a fresh coat of paint which is certain to brighten the room up. Sticking to the same colour is an easy, simple solution. If you fancy a slight change or want to keep up with the latest trends, you could always opt for a whole new colour, as long as it fits in with the rest of your kitchens style.

Refresh the Countertops

Your kitchen countertops are an element to your kitchen that usually only ever gets replaced once or twice in your kitchens life. Dependant on the materials you choose, your countertop should last you many years due to durability. You do often find, however, that countertops can begin to look dark and old sooner than you hoped. If this is the case, it may be down to the fact that they’re not receiving enough TLC. Giving your kitchen countertops a good clean every other day will nourish the materials, as well as keep them looking new and fresh. Try to use chopping boards instead of chopping onto your countertops as this can create marks and scratches across the material that can’t be fixed unless you replace the whole unit. If you’ve had your countertops for a while now and they’re starting to look old, it’s probably time to invest in a new look. Whilst this is often a little pricier, it’s a change you only need to make once or twice, and it will also add value to your home.

Rejuvenate Tired Cabinets

Kitchen cabinets are the most likely part of the kitchen to look tired and worn first. You use your kitchen cabinets every single day, multiple times, which can cause them to wear and tire. Replacing kitchen cabinets sounds like an expensive process, however you can now invest in replacement kitchen doors that enable you to simply replace the door and nothing else. By only replacing the kitchen cupboard doors you are able to create a brand new look for your kitchen, whilst keeping the majority of your existing kitchen as it is.  This is where you can become a little creative and add something new. Whilst your kitchen units need to suit the style and décor of your current kitchen, you could look at introducing new colours, materials or even a new style such as shaker or contemporary. Once you have added your replacement kitchen doors to your kitchen you’ll notice an instant lift in the kitchens overall atmosphere as well as feeling like you have a whole new kitchen that you can’t wait to show off.

Replace Hardware

Everything looks better with some detailing. Whether it’s the stylish door knobs on your kitchen door, or the fancy curtain rails that add a little extra to the walls, you can really emphasise your homes style and décor with some stylish hardware. The hardware is often, however, the part of the home that is rushed or overlooked. There are some gorgeous designs that you can choose that will add character and style to your kitchen. You may find that your current handles, pulls and rails are looking tired or maybe out of date, so replacing them with some new, shiny styles will look really good. Focus on areas like your kitchen cupboards, doors and curtains as these are some stylish hardware works really well.

Add a Little Extra

Every room in your home highlights your personal style, therefore you often notice a recurring theme with additional details and personal touches. Introducing items to your kitchen that emphasise the style you want to create is ideal, for example introducing some plants or flowers. Flowers are perfect for adding a delicate touch to your kitchen whilst also creating a lovely aroma. You can then look at adding family photographs to highlight your happy family home, artwork is perfect for drawing a room together and adding the perfect finishing touch and then cookery books help to add character as well as practicality.
